Exhibition “Householders” in the lens of Marek Czezyk

“Homemakers” is a magical photographic exhibition featuring portraits of residents of a house in Kamionka, Lublin Province, one of the branches of the Joanna Radziwill Care Wings Foundation.

The author of the photos, Marek Czezyk, works every day as an educator accompanying children and young people at the foundation home. The greatest of his passions in life is photography. The exhibition is a kind of summary of his work, experiences and an invitation to the children’s and adolescents’ world of fantasy. The author’s desire was to capture what sits inside children, to connect the world of culture with the world of nature. The result is a series of twelve photographs. Each photograph is the sum of the children’s experiences, visions of themselves and the colorful creation for which they were portrayed.

The session was co-created together with the children and took place in several stages. The first step was to jointly design creations that served as a kind of “mask”. Then scissors, hands and imagination went into action. The idea was that the materials used should be of natural origin as much as possible. Therefore, the omnipresence of cardboard, strings or plant elements is not surprising. The process of preparing the costumes took place over several dozen days. The second step was a photo shoot. In a split second, personality, creation and light created portraits of the residents of the magical house. Literalism meets abstraction on the frames.

Marek Czezyk about himself

The camera is a key that opens many doors. I entered quite easily through the ajar door of the foundation house, in Kamionka. Inside, I observed the bricks and wood resting on the foundation from the heart. Wanting to press the handle again, I felt it become heavier. I stayed. I settled in.

The series of photographs came about as a result of a personal encounter with children, educators and myself. Even before I pressed the shutter, I invited the children to a creative adventure that I myself let myself be a part of. The colorful artifacts are the result of hard work, crazy fun and ideas about myself. Each portrait is a colorful mask, behind which a piece of the soul shines through. The camera is a key that opens various doors in the literal and metaphorical sense. It opens the mind. It opens creativity. It opens to friendships. It opens hearts. And I’m going into it. Together with my children.

The price of the work is PLN 3,500 / equivalent to a month’s stay of 1 child in the foundation’s Home for Children: Warsaw, Milanówek, Kamionka, Lublin voivodeship /.
